About Us

Regarded by many as a local treasure, The Eight Bells is one of pub landlord, Tommy O’Sullivan’s, greatest successes to date. He reopened the Eight Bells just 2 years ago, following a 9 month closure and much to the delight of the pub’s previous patrons.

Tommy brings a lot of experience to The Eight Bells, having managed the Butchers Arms in Fringford and in Headington. It’s this experience and his refreshing entrepreneurship that has led him to offer many new and exciting things, like pig roasts and a thirst quenching selection of real ales and ciders. And he’s managed to do this while retaining the pub’s original charm and character, evident in the traditional range of pub grub, including ‘curry and a pint’ on Wednesdays and T-Bone steaks on a Thursday.

Such a hit is the reopened Eight Bells, that it’s even a popular haunt with staff from local breweries, who often nip in for a pint. Not surprising when the pub sells beers from a wide range of breweries, including White Horse Bitter, Abingdon Bridge and the Loose Cannon Brewery in Abingdon.

Tommy is also keen to make the Eight Bells more than just a pub for regulars and to this end he often hosts beer festivals and other events, including Irish Night in November and regular Aunt Sally matches.

You may also want to chat to Tommy and the rest of us about the pub’s unusual history and the folklore regarding a tunnel from the pub to a priest hole in a nearby house.

We’ll be glad to indulge you...
